What is the Brazilian government doing to help?
Self help schemes - they provide materials such as brick, glass and cement so that residents can improve their own homes, creating a community spirit as they work together.
‘The Favela Bairro Project’ or ‘Slum to neighbourhood’ - the government builds homes with services and sells them off.
Charities - The Developing Mind Foundation builds schools and supports education in the favelas.
