How do you treat Ebola?
Supportive
Some experimental MABs and specific antivirals
What are the complications of Ebola?
Can have prolonged infection in CNS, semen, breast milk and aqueous humour
Sequelae: HA, visual disturbance, dizziness, reduced appetite
Socioeconomic!
How do you prevent ebola?
Education: bushmeat, dead animals Ervebo vaccine Isolation Safe burial or cremation of bodies Makes safe sex for 1yr post infection or 2 negative semen samples
What infection prevention control measures should occur when dealing with VHF?
Isolate Pt
Two areas with triage system: Pts meeting case definition, Pts with confirmed disease
PPE: 2xgloves, coverall, apron, FFP3, eyewear, hood and boots
Supervised donning and doffing
Buddy
Safe sharps use
Incinerate or safely bury clinical waste
Trace contacts of patients for last 3 weeks and establish surveillance of them (BD temps)
Provide information for families and the community about prevention and the care Pts are receiving
