What are the Effects of Anorexia Nervosa
psychological and physiological effects on organ system and starvation
What do Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa have in common?
extreme shape and weight concern
peaks at 15-25yr old female
What is Bulimia Nervosa
Recurrent binge eating
What is the Difference between Bulimia Nervosa and Binge Eating Disorder
Bulimia Nervosa - has compensatory behaviour - vomit, laxatives, fasting, exercise
Binge Eating Disorder - no compensatory behaviour
What do These Disorders have in Common
negative behaviour around food, levels of distress and core beliefs
What are the Possible Causes (6)
mental health, family, perfectionism, history of diet, being part of an activity with emphasis on appearance, peer pressure
How is oral health affected?
erosion, caries, hypersensitivity
oral mucosa and salivary changes
How is bone affected?
osteoporosis - increases risk to periodontal disease
How do Emotions Control Eating?
when situations feel out of control e.g. argument = stop eating
regulate negative states = binge eating
