Inspection of ear
Ear is equal in size, bean like in shape and aligned with outer canthus of the eye
The auricle, tragus and lobules are free of lumps and skin lesions
Color consistent with the face
Palpation of the ear
Palpate auricle, tragus and lobule
Apply gentle but firm pressure to the tragus
Cerumen
Ear wax
- Dark brown-yellow
- Sticky
- Flaky

Wisper Test
Stand approximately 2 feet away
Client has eyes closed and you whisper one or two syllables in ear and client has to repeat
Weber’s Test
Using tunning fork to evaluate sound waves through bone
Placed on the patient’s forehead and ask the patient which side they hear the most
Rhine Test
Compares air conduction to bone conduction
Placed on mastoid bone and the patient will hear the tunning sound. After it fades, place the tunning fork by client’s ear.
Normal findings: weber’s test
Sound waves are transmitted to both ears
