Background
The ANC was formed in 1912
Origanally known as the South African Native National Congress
Leaders and members at the time
Leaders were moderates and its members were mainly middle class blacks.
ANC Youth League
Early 1940s, new gen of activists criticised ANC leadership for their aim of winning respect of whites.
So they started ANC Youth in 1943. Included men such as: Nelson Mandela, Govan Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, Oliver Tambo, Anton Lembede and AP Mda
Actions in 1949
Unveiled its Programme of Action, later adopted by ANC to commit the ANC to non-violent action in campaigns of: Strikes, boycotts, civil disobedience and work stoppage.
Congress of the people and the Freedom Charter
In 1955, ANC worked with other orgs, South African Indian Congress(SAIC), SACPO, Congress of Democrats (COD), Mainly white orgs made of previous Communist party members, to organise a nationwide meeting.
