Botha attacked the ANC and MK

- Jan 1981: attacked MK forces in Mozambique + Matola, killing 15 members
- Dec 1982: raided Masera, Lesotho, where ANC were hiding, killing 42 inc. other residents not involved in ANC
- 1981: targeted assassinations were carried out, Joe Gqabi (ANC rep for Zimbabwe) was shot in his house.
- Ruth First (ANC member and SACP member) killed by a parcel bomb
- June 1984: SADF attacked ANC targets in Botswana, killing 15

- SA sent financial and military support to anti-communists armies fighting against new. independent govs in Angola and Mozambique to keep civil wars going and to DESTABILISE the region
- March 1984- Mozambique signed a pact with SA to agree not to assist the ANC if SA withdrew = huge blow to ANC (had to remove bases from the country)
