A

After seeing the success of the Flemish in Sandwich, Elizabeth I granted permission for Walloons to settle in Canterbury in 1575 for the economy to begin to thrive
They were invited to occupy 100 homes - 750 people arrive in Canterbury

A

Walloons were skilled artisans, and they significantly contributed to the economic growth of Canterbury
There was less resentment because they introduced new industries like sugar refining and diamond cutting.
They had elders and local authorities to help establish regulations.
By 1585, the English grew concerned and the Walloons had to prove they were migrating for either refuge from persecution or to be a non-competitive business worker.
