E8-15 Key Science Vocabulary Flashcards
A measure of the amount of molecular motion, often using the Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C) scale, related to average kinetic energy of the particles.
Temperature
The process of transferring thermal energy through matter by the transfer of kinetic energy between atoms, molecules, and electrons.
Conduction
A material that is used to slow down or prevent the flow of thermal energy or electrical energy through it.
Insulator/Insulation
An object that supports the transfer of thermal energy or electrical energy.
Thermal Conductor
The process of energy or matter entering a material but not exiting the material.
Absorb/Absorption
A property of waves wherein the wave bounces off an object.
Reflect/Reflection
Energy that comes from the sun.
Solar Energy
The act of energy passing through a medium or vacuum.
Transmit/Transmitted
The transfer of thermal energy by the movement of fluids of different temperatures.
Convection
A substance, such as a liquid or gas, that can flow.
Fluid
Energy transmitted to objects by waves that do not need a material medium.
Radiation
