Dysarthria is the medical term for a neurogenic speech disorder that causes unclear speech.
Dysarthria is caused by a neurological disease or damage which results in weakness, slowness, or reduced coordination or control over the muscles used for speech.
There are a number of different types of dysarthria, which are associated with different disease processes and/or areas of damage.
بيبقى مشكلته من الاعصاب، الاشارات اللي ف المخ بتوصل ضعيفة او بطيئة او مبيبقاش في coordination صح بين العضلات المسؤولة عن الكلام
حسب انهو مكان في المخ تم اتلافه بيبقى نوع مختلف من المرض
✓ Dysarthria is usually caused by damage to the brain or conditions that affect the nervous system. It can happen at any age.
✓ Common causes include:
stroke, severe head injury and brain tumors
Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and motor neuron disease
cerebral palsy and Down’s syndrome
✓ It can also be a side effect of certain medicines, such as some medicines to treat epilepsy.
✓ حصل تلف في المخ اثرت على الجهاز العصبي، بيحصل ف اي سن
✓ الاعراض الشائعة
جلطة او اصابة في الراس شديدة او ورم في المخ
شلل رعاش او تليفات متعددة في الجهاز العصبي المركزي (تلف للجهاز العصبي اللي مسؤول عن الاشارات)
شلل دماغي او متلازمة داون
✓ ممكن ببقى عرض جانبي لادوية معينة لانها بتاثر ع المدى البعيد ع الجهاز العصبي المركزي زي ادوية الصرع
Types of dysarthria:
1- Flaccid ارتخاء العضلات
2- Spastic تشنج العضلات
3- Ataxic
4- Hyperkinetic حركة العضلة اعلى من المستوى الطبيعي
5- Hypokinetic حركة العضلة اقل من المستوى الطبيعي
6- mixed كوكتيل بين اكتر من نوع
1- weak muscle tone affecting speech clarity
Key symptoms: breathness صوت نفسه واضح اوي اثناء الكلام
2- muscle stiffness (tension) leading to slow, slurred speech
Key symptoms: strained voice
3- poor coordination causing irregular speech rhythm مفيش كووردينيشن بين كلماتي بالذات البروزوديك فيتشرز والستريتس والانتونيشن بايظ خالص
4- involuntary movements disrupting speech حركة العضلة مش قادر اتحكم فيها ومفيش عليها سيطرة
Key symptoms: variable rate and volume
5- limited movement resulting in rapid, soft speech كلامه اقل من المعدل الطبيعي والتون بتاعه ضعيف
Key symptoms: mumbled words
6- combines symptoms of multiple types
Key Symptoms: depending on underlying mix
Symptoms:
1- inability to speak louder than a whisper or to speak loudly
2- abnormal speech rhythm
3- strained raspy or nasal sounding voice
4- monotonous speech
5- uneven speech volume
6- slow or slurred speech
7- rapid speech that is difficult to understand
8- difficulty in moving the facial muscles or the tongue

Diagnosis:
✓ SLP review a person’s medical history (CT اشعة مقطعية, MRI)
✓ Brain boipsy (بيسحبوا سوائل من المخ يتاكدو ان مفيش حاجة فيه)
✓ inhalation & exhalation
✓ tongue movement
