What is DVT
Pain and tenderness, redness and swelling commonly in the calf
Aetiology
Three factors know to cause DVT
- Venous stasis
- Hyper-coagulability
- Vessel wall injury
What is venous stasis
This occurs with decreased blood flow - immobility, medications and heart failure
What is Hyper-coagulability
this occurs with deficient fluid volume
what is Vessel wall injury
This may occur due to venipuncture, medications, trauma and surgery
Nursing diagnoses
Acute pain r/t oedema and inadequate tissue perfusion
Risk of developing PE r/t potential thrombus

Coldspa pain
Braden scale

Apply ted stockings as prescribed
Admin analgesia as prescribed
