Ren Shen + Huang Qi
- Chronic illness leading to Qi deficiency
- Rectal and uterine prolapse and gastric ptosis due to SP Qi sinking
- lack of appetite, loose stool, fatigue, and spontaneous sweating due to Qi deficiency
- Low grade fever due to Qi deficiency
Ren Shen: ONLY herb that tonifies Yuan Qi
Huang Qi: tonify wei qi; raise Yang Qi
Ren Shen + Fu Zi
- Chronic disease, loss of blood, HT disease with cold limbs, cold spontaneous sweating (as seen in sudden blood loss)
- Collapse of Qi, minute pulse
- Jue Yin syndrome in Shang Han Lun, cold limbs
Bai Zhu + Fu Ling
- Edema, accumulation of Damp caused by SP deficiency
- Fatigue, weakness in limbs, loose stool caused by SP Qi deficiency with Damp accumulation
- Vertigo, blurred vision, heart plpitation due to Damp-Phlegm
- Chronic cough due to Damp-Phlegm and SP deficiency
Bai Zhu: dry damp
Fu Ling: drain damp to strengthen SP
Chai Hu + Sheng Ma
- uterine prolapse, rectal prolapse, gastric ptosis, due to central Qi sinking
- Metrorrhagia and abnormal vaginal discharge due to central Qi sinking
- chronic diarrhea or chronic dysentery due to central Qi sinking
- SOB and dyspnea with feeling of oppression and falling of the LU due to Qi sinking
Chai Hu: Raise Yang Qi
Huang Qi + Shan Yao
- Xiao-Ke syndrome (Diabetes)
- Chronic gastritis, SP and ST Qi deficiency
Shu Di Huang + Dang Gui
- Chronic cough/asthma due to Yin deficiency of the KD associated with Blood deficiency
- Blood deficiency
- constipation due to blood deficiency
Shu Di Huang: tonify blood only
Dang Gui: tonify and move blood
Shu Di Huang + Sha Ren
- Blood/Yin/Jing deficiency associated with weakness of SP/ST
Sha Ren: reduces Shu Di Huang ‘greasiness’ quality
Dang Gui + Huang Qi
- Delayed menstruation, postpartum weakness, agalactia due to Qi and blood deficiency
- Low grade fever due to Blood deficiency
- Numbness of the limbs due to blood deficiency not nourishing the sinews
- Various hemorrhages due to Qi not containing the Blood within the vessels
Gou Qi Zi + Ju Hua
- Eye disorders: blurred vision, diminished visual acuity, photophobia, dry eyes with possible headache
- Pain in the low back and knees due to LV/KD deficiency
Fu Zi + Gan Jiang
- Loss of consciousness, cold perspiration, cold limbs, and a minute pulse due to Yang collapse
- Pain and feeling of cold in the ST and abdomen, vomiting/diarrhea due to SP deficienct cold
Fu Zi: warms whole body; works fast, lasts a short time
Gan Jiang: Keeps center warm, works slow and lasts a long time
Xian Mao + Yin Yang Huo
- Menopausal syndrome due to KD Yin/Yang deficiency
- Hypertension accompanied by cold limbs, aversioni to cold, weakness of back and knee
Du Zhong + Xu Duan
- Aches/pains, stiffness, lumbar pain, weakness of lower limbs due to LV/KD (sinews/bone) deficiency
- knees and lumbar pain due to Wind-Damp or Trauma
- Metrorrhagia during pregnancy, threatened miscarriage and lumbago due to KD deficiency
Tian Men Dong + Mai Men Dong
- Dry mouth, thrist, dry cough with little phlegm, fever, and vexation due to Yin deficiency
- Cough with hemptysis due to heat damaging the network vessels of the LU
- Upper Xiao Ke with excessive drinking, thirst, and dry throat due to LU Heat damaging the fluids
- Whopping cough damaging LU Yin
Gui Ban + Bie Jia
- Tidal fever, steaming bones, and night sweats due to deficient heat caused by Yin deficiency
- weakness of limbs, trembling due to Warm disease damaging fluids and stirring LV Wind
- Hypertension, headaches, vertigo, head distention, and tinnitus due to LV yang rising
- abdominal congestion, such as hepatomegaly and splenomegaly
Gui Ban: ventral aspect (yin); stop bleeding
Bie Jia: Dorsal aspect (yang); activate blood
Mai Men Dong + Xuan Shen
- Xiao Ke (diabetes) accompanied by dry mouth and throat, red tongue, scanty tongue coating
