Shi Gao + Zhi Mu
- 4 Bigs: high fever, profuse sweating, great thirst, surging pulse due to Heat in the Qi level
- Xiao Ke (U.J.) with polydipsia, a dry mouth and tongue, and great thirst due to excess LU Heat
Shi Gao: Clears excess heat
Zhi Mu: Nourish fluids, can clear excess/deficiency heat (depends on the herb pair)
Xi Xin + Shi Gao
- ST Heat: toothache, bleeding/swollen/painful gums, oral ulcers, and glossitis
- Headache due to Wind-Heat entering the clear orifices
Xi Xin: toothache, analgesic herb
Shi Gao: Clears heat (in this case, ST heat)
Zhi Zi + Dan Dou Chi
- Irritability and agitation, insomnia, and vexation during or after a Warm-febrile disease
- External contraction of W-H of febrile disease
Zhi Zi: Chest; HT/PC heat
Dan Dou Chi: release irritability; preparation controls the temperature of the herb
Lu Gen + Bai Mao Gen
- Fever, thirst, and irritability due to Warm febrile disease or Wind-Heat
- Cough/wheezing due to LU Heat
- Early stage of measles due to Toxic-Heat
- Acute nephritis, urinary tract infection accompanied by fever, dysuriam or edema
- Nausea/vomiting due to ST Heat
- Epidemic hemorrhagic fever
Lu Gen: Promote urination
Bai Mao Gen: Promote urination; stop bleeding
Mu Dan Pi + Dan Shen
- Blood Heat: Hematemesis, epistaxis, metrorrhagia, purpura, rubella, and pruritis
- Menstrual irregularities or postpartum abdominal pain due to Blood-Heat causing Blood stasis
- Continuous, low grade fever due to Yin deficiency
- Hot, red, swollen, painful joints due to Heat-Bi
Mu Dan Pi: Reduce blood vessel shape
Dan Shen: Coronary Artery Disease
Chi Shao + Bai Shao
- Blood-Heat, Chronic low-grade fever
- Yin and Body-fluid deficiency, dry mouth, red and painful eyes
- Chest and hypochondriac pain, abdominal pain
- Irregular menstruation, amenorrhea due to Blood deficiency and stasis with Heat
Chi Shao: red peony; move and cool blood; stop pain d/t blood stasis
Bai Shao: White peony; tonify blood, cool blood; stop pain d/t deficiency
Huang Bai + Cang Zhu
- Wilting of the lower limbs with pain due to Damp-Heat pouring downward to the lower part
- Damp-Heat in the genital area: vaginal discharge, external vaginal itching, and cloudy, scanty urination
- Red, swollen, hot painful joints due to Wind-Damp-Heat Bi syndrome
Huang Bai: Lower Jiao
Cang Zhu: Driest herb; dampness in the lower body; CI: Yin Deficiency
Huang Lian + Mu Xiang
- Dysentery with abdominal pain and tenesemus d/t Damp-Heat and Qi Stagnation in the lower jiao
Huang Lian: Damp-Heat dysentery
Mu Xiang: Qi Regulator in GI tract
Jin Yin Hua + Lian Qiao
- Cold and influenza d/t Wind-Heat
- Warm-febrile disease with internal heat
- Headache, eye pain, toothache, sinusitis, and painful, swollen throat d/t Wind-Heat
- Skin eruption with pruritis d/t Wind-Heat
- Skin inflammation d/t Toxic-Heat
Lian Qiao: Ext W-H
Niu Bang Zi + Lian Qiao
- Mouth and tongue ulcer, swollen gum, sore throat due to Heat
- Red swelling, carbuncle, erythema, mumps, and acute febrile maculopapular rash
_Niu Bang Zi:_Wind-Heat; sore throat; constipation - moistens intestines
Lian Qiao: Wind-Heat
Ban Lan Gen + Xuan Shen
- Painful/red/swollen throat d/t Yin defcient Heat or excess fire which damages yin
Ban Lan Gen: toxic heat; sore throat; w/o chills
Xuan Shen: blood heat
Xuan Shen + Mu Li
- Neck lumps or nodules such as in scrofula, lipoma, swollen glands, or goiter in patterns of phlegm fire
- Also used for similar nodules in the inguinal canal and other parts of the body
Salty nature of herbs dissipates nodules
Hua Shi + Gan Cao
- Summer-Heat and damp: marked by fever, restlessness, thirst, diarrhea, difficulty in urine
- Damp-Heat or UB marked by dark urine, difficulty and painful urination or urinary stone
Qing Hao + Bie Jia
- Steaming bone fever, night sweat, cough due to Yin deficiency
- Malaria
- Later stage of warm-febile disease; mosly night time sx: fever with morning coolness
Qing Hao: brings out/vents heat
Bie Jia: turtle; takes Qing Hao deeper and stays deeper to nourish fluids
Zhu Mu + Huang Bai
- Yin deficiency heat: afternoon fever, steaming bones, and night sweat, seminal emission
- Excessive sexual desire and easy erection due to deficient Fire and hyperactive Mingmen-Fire
- Dysuria to Yin deficiency and to Yang losing its ability to transform
Zhi Mu: nourish yin; clear deficient heat
Huang Bai: lower burner; KD deficiency
