Da Huang + Mang Xiao
A
- Constipation with hard, dry stools and abdominal pain due to Heat accumulation
- Constipation with high fever, tidal fever, mental confusion due to excess heat in Yang Ming Fu
- Chronic or severe constipation due to Heat
Da Huang: purgative; cold temp
Mang Xiao: very cold, heat accumulation
Purge heat through stools

- Constipation, abdominal pain, aversion to cold, and cold limbs due to cold accumulation
Da Huang: purgative;need higher amount of Fu Zi to compete with cold nature
Fu Zi: Hot herb for cold accumulation

A
- Constipation due to body fluid deficiency after Warm-febrile disease, giving birth
- Constipation due to blood deficiency, especially for elderly/deficient constitution
Dang Gui: tonifies blood, moves blood
Rou Cong Rong: Yang tonic

Tao Ren + Xing Ren
A
- Chest, epigastric, and lower abdominal pain due to Qi stagnation and blood stasis
- Constipation of the deficient type d/t dryness in the LI
- Constipation of the excess type d/t Qi Stagnation
Tao Ren: peach kernel, blood level
Xing Ren: apricot kernel, Qi level
