-itching

-physical exam

How to manage dry skin
-moisture
-use warm water and limit bath time
-avoid harsh, drying soaps
-apply moisturiser immediately after bath
-choose fabrics that are kind to your skin
What are Eczematous disorders ?
-sometimes calles atropic dermatitis
-it’s when your skin itches and turns red from time to time
Symptoms of eczematous disorder
-dry, scaly skin
-redness
-itching which may be intense
Diagnosis of Eczematous disorders
-patch test (pinpoint allergens that triggers symptoms)
Types of Eczematous disorders
-atopic dermatitis
-contact dermatitis
-dyshidrotic dermatitis
-hand eczema
-neurodermatitis
-nummular eczema
What is the most common form of eczema ?
Atopic dermatitis
What is Atopic Dermatitis
-starts in childhood, often gets milder or goes away by adulthood
-triad (dermatitis, asthma & hay fever)
Signs:
•rash often forms in the creases of your elbows or knees
•skin on areas of rash turns lighter or darker or thicker
•small bumps may appear and leak fluid if scratched
Factors:
•genes
•dry skin
•immune system problem
•environment
What is contact dermatitis ?
-Types:
•allergic contact dermatitis (immune system reaction to an irritant like latex or metal)
•irritant contact dermatitis (when chemical or other substance that irritates skin)
-symptoms:
•itch, red, burns, stings
•itchy bumps / hives
•fluid-filled blisters that may crust over
-skin may thicken
-factors:
•detergents
•bleach
•jewellery
•latex
•skincare products
What is Dyshidrotic eczema ?
When there are small blisters on your hands and feet
-symptoms:
•Fluid-filled blisters form on your fingers, toes, palms and soles of your feet
•Itch
•skin can scale, crack, flake
Factors:
•allergies
•damp hands and feet
•exposure to substance like nickel, cobalt, chromium salt
•stress
What is Hand eczema ?
Eczema that only affect your hands
Symptoms:
•redness, itchiness
•cracks or blisters
•dryness
Jobs that expose them to irritants:
•cleaning
•hairdressing
•healthcare
•laundry and dry cleaning
What is Neurodermatitis ?
-Like atopic dermatitis that causes thick scaly patches to pop up on skin
-usually starts in people who have other types of eczema or psoriasis
-Symptoms:
•thick, scaly patches form
•itchy
What is Nummular eczema ?
-Eczema that causes round, coin-shapef spots on your skin
Nummular = coin in Latin
Looks very different from other types
Symptoms:
•round,coin-shaped form on skin
•itchy and scaly
Factors:
•insect bite
•allergic reaction to metals or chemicals
•dry skin
