Prescription drugs?
Legally obtained with a doctors consent
Drug abuse?
Using drugs in a way which harms the user
Illegal drugs?
Drugs which are illegal to posses sell or use put into three classifications depending on their harmfulness and addictivness
Social drugs?
Legal drugs which are addictive eg alcohol
What is alcohol?
A depressant that makes the body run slower. Leads to relaxation but runs out. 30000 deaths each year are mostly due to alcohol. Liver damage. Government put taxes on it to make it more expensive.
What is tobacco?
Used in cigarettes it contains nicotine and causes lung cancer and damage to unborn kids. Impose taxes on them.
Caffeine?
Is a stimulant and social drug found in coffee. Wakes a person up and gives energy only temporary.
Prescription drugs?
Developed for medicinal reasons but taken in the wrong way can be harmful. Insulin when not diabetic kills.
Examples of class A drugs
Heroin - opiate. Possession 7 years. Supply is life.
Cocaine - stimulant. Possession 7 years. Supply life.
Ecstasy - stimulant. Possession 7. Supply life.
Examples of class B drugs?
Speed - stimulant to increase awareness. Possession 5 supply 14.
Cannabis - relaxation. Possession 5 supply 14.
Examples of C grade drug
Anabolic steroids - a lot of growth legal is prescribed. Supply 14.
Genuine or medical addiction?
Body becomes dependant on drug in order to work properly. Nicotine makes it hard to concentrate without
Social addiction?
Get into habit of taking a drug
Effects of drugs on mind
Poor decisions while under influence. Possible schizophrenia BC of cannabis.
Effects of drugs on body
Damage to organs - liver damage BC of too many paracetamol. Dehydration.
