Drugs & Stroke Flashcards
Mechanism of Fibrinolytic Agents…
Plasmin degrades fibrin/trypsin to form protease, plasminogen deposits fibrin as clot forms and dissolves after repair.
Examples of Fibrinolytic Agent…
Alteplase = plasminogen activators, given IV short acting within 3 hours of ischaemic event.
Mechanism of Anti-Platelet Drugs…
Modify coagulation, success in venous thrombosis causing low pressure and slow flow.
Modify platelet aggregation and clot/thrombus breakdown.
Examples of Anti-Platelet Drugs…
Aspirin - acute in first 24 hours before antiplatelet regime is established.
Dipyridamole / Clopidogrel.
Mechanism of Anti-Coagulant Agents…
Diminishes concentration of clot factors.
Examples of Anti-Coagulant Agents…
Heparin - IV immediate effect, activates anti-clot molecules.
Warfarin - inhibit vit K in liver to reduce assembling of clot factors so can’t form fibrin. Oral.
Anti platelet Therapy…
Reduces incidence of further infarction.
Combined with 75mg Aspirin and 400mg Dipyridamole.
