Clonazepam (Rivotril, Klonopin)
Benzodiazepine
Sedative
Prevent and treat seizures, panic disorder, anxiety disorder
A group of CNS depressants which induce feelings of calm (anxiolysis), drowsiness and sleep. They act by facilitating the binding of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at various GABA receptors throughout the CNS.
Dilantin (Phenytoin)
Anticonvulsant
Use for prevention of tonic clinic seizures and focal seizures
Lithium
Mood stablizer
Used to treat bipolar and depressive disorders
Side effects- increased urination, shaking of hands, increased thirst
Lorazepam (Ativan)
Benzodiazepine
Used to treat anxiety disorders, trouble sleeping, severe agitation, active seizures including status epilepticus, alcohol withdrawal, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
Commonly used to treat anxiety or insomnia
Lorazepam binds to benzodiazepine receptors on the postsynaptic GABA-A ligand-gated chloride channel neuron at several sites within the central nervous system (CNS). It enhances the inhibitory effects of GABA, which increases the conductance of chloride ions in the cell
Diazepam
Diazepam is used to treat anxiety, alcohol withdrawal, and seizures. It is also used to relieve muscle spasms and to provide sedation before medical procedures. This medication works by calming the brain and nerves. Diazepam belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines.
Stelazine (Trifluoperazine)
