Drugs In The CVS Flashcards
1
Q
Aspirin
A
- Anti platelet drug (with long term use)
- blocks production of thromboxane
- inhibits enzyme cyclooxygenase which is needed for thromboxane production
2
Q
Prostacyclin
A
- anti platelet drug
- binds to prostacyclin receptors on platelets
- this increases cAMP and blocks increase of calcium caused by the thromboxane receptor
- blocks platelet aggregation
3
Q
Dipyridamole
A
- anti platelet drug
- inhibits thromboxane synthetase
- inhibits phosphodiesterase (degreases cAMP)
- blocks platelet aggregation
4
Q
Heparin
A
- prevents blood clot formation.
- enhances the activity of antithrombin III.
- thrombin is removed from blood so fibrin meshwork isn’t formed.
5
Q
Verapamil
A
- used to treat high bp
- a Ca++ channel antagonist
- they decrease length of AP
- they decrease contraction Ty of the myocardial cells
6
Q
Diltiazem
A
- used to treat high bp
- a Ca++ antagonist
- decreases duration of cardiac muscle AP
- decreases strength of contractility of cardiac muscle.
