- tablet
- 1 mg daily; can take at least 3 months to see an effect
- must be used indefinitely or condition reappears
-Do not dispense to pts taking Proscar for BPH
-CI: pregnancy
-warning: hazardous drug for females of childbearing potential
Proscar**
- 5-alpha reductase type 2 inhibitor approved for BPH**
Barictinib
Olumiant
- Janus kinase inhibitor approved for severe alopecia
- boxed: (serious infections (ex herpes zoster), malignancy, thrombosis)*, major CVD events, mortality
Minoxidil topical**
Rogaine**
- OTC
- flammable, do not use near a heat source
- can be used by males or females
tablet form (Rx) (rarely) used for HTN
Bimatoprost
Latisse
- Rx: solution
-for thinning eyelashes (hypotrichosis)**
-Do not use with prostaglandin analogs used for glaucoma (IOP may increase)**
-apply nightly to skin at base of upper eyelashes**
