What are painkillers? What do they do?
Are drugs that relieve pain. However, they don’t actually tackle the cause of the disease or kill pathogens. Just help reduce symptoms.
What are antibiotics
They kill the bacteria causing the problem without killing your own body cells.
How can bacteria develop to antibiotics?
Can become resistant. Bacteria can mutate. This means if you have an infection only the non-resistant strands will be killed.
What is aspirin and where is it found?
A painkiller to lower fever. Developed from chemical found in willow.
What is digitalis? Found where?
Used to treat heart conditions. Found in foxgloves.
What are the 3 main stages of testing drugs?
1) test on human cells and tissues in lab
2) test drug on live animals
3) test on human volunteers
