B1 Cell Structre And Transport Flashcards
What is eukaryote?
An organism made up of eukaryotic cells.
What is a prokaryote?
Is a prokaryotic cell. Its a single-celled organism.
Prokaryotes are what?
Bacteria
What is nucleus?
Contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
What is cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What is cell membrane
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
What is mitochondria?
These are where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
What are ribosomes?
These are where proteins are made in the cell.
What is cell wall?
Made of cellulose. It supports the cell and strengthens it
Permanent vacuole
Contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts.
Chloroplasts
This is where photosynthesis takes place. It is a green substance.
What is found in your nucleus and what does it contain?
Chromosomes. They are found in the nucleus and contain genetic material.
How many pairs of chromosomes are there
23
What is mitosis?
The stage of the cell cycle when the cell divides.
Why do multicellular use mitosis?
To grow or replace cells that have been damaged.
