Drugs Flashcards
Case 3 drugs
What is Clarithromycin
antibiotic
What is amoxicillin
antibiotic
How does a nicotine replacement theory do its thing ( Varenicline )
reduces nicotine craving
What is the mechanism of action of Varenicline
Partial agonist of α4ß2 nicotinic Ach receptor. It stimulates the nicotinic receptors more weakly than nicotine itself. It reduces the downstream release of dopamine.
Mechanism of action of Clarithromycin
Penetrates bacterial cell wall and reversibly binds to domain V of 23s ribosomal RNA of the 50s ribosome thus blocking polypeptide synthesis
Mechanism of action of Amoxicillin
Binds to penicillin-binding protein 1A located in cell wall of bacteria. Inactivation of enzyme prevents the last stage of bacterial wall synthesis and cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall enzymes
