Drug Synthesis To The Lungs Flashcards
1
Q
Define pharmacophore
A
Groups that are identified to be essential for pharmocological activity
2
Q
Name all the steps which lead to the synthesis of a drug
A
- Identify the biological target e.g. for asthma B2 receptors
- Then identify the lead compound e.g. we know adrenaline dilates airways, but it has short action so they switch up some functional groups
- Then identify which functional groups are important - taking into account binding interactions, the pharmacophore
- Selectivity of action - want b2 activation
- **Duration of action and metabolic stability **
- Stereochemistry - use single enantiomer rather than a range
- Duration of action restricted - alter physiochemical properties
