Q

Name all the steps which lead to the synthesis of a drug

A
  1. Identify the biological target e.g. for asthma B2 receptors
  2. Then identify the lead compound e.g. we know adrenaline dilates airways, but it has short action so they switch up some functional groups
  3. Then identify which functional groups are important - taking into account binding interactions, the pharmacophore
  4. Selectivity of action - want b2 activation
  5. **Duration of action and metabolic stability **
  6. Stereochemistry - use single enantiomer rather than a range
  7. Duration of action restricted - alter physiochemical properties
