Drug List Block 3 Flashcards
Chloropamazine
Antagonist on dopaminergic seretonergic histaminergic alpha muscarinic
Antiemetic and intractable hiccup
Pro version now used due to long term side effects
Domperidone
Dopamine receptor d2 and d3
Gastrointestinal emptying adjunct and peristaltic stimulant
Metoclopramide
Dopamine receptor agonist
Inhibits gastric smooth muscle relaxation so decreases reflux
Improved acid clearance by increasing amplitude of peristaltic contractions
Perphanazine
10 to 15 times more potent than the chloro one
Inhibits dopamine receptors
And ones in chemoreceptor trigger zone and vomit centre
Has a greater behavioural potency
Histamine antagonists
Cyclizine helps with nausea and vertigo anticholinergic effects and central nervous system depressant
Cinnarizine also inhibits d2 receptors ach receptors and vascular smooth muscle contraction by blocking L and T calcium channels
Promethazine anticholinergic and sedative effects
Ach antagonist hyoscine
Scopolamine helps prevent motion sickness
Acts on communication between vestibular system and vomiting centre
Ondanesteron
Seretonin 5HT receptor antagonist with a low affinity for dopamine receptors
Inhibits both centrally (CTZ) and peripherally (GI tract)
Granniesteron is how used
Non steroidal anti inflammatories
Aspirin irreversible
Ibuprofen reversible
Naproxen
COX inhibitors
Peptic ulcer treatment :proton pump inhibitors
Esomrprazole and omeprwzole (proton pump inhibitors)
Ranitidine
Histamine antagonist
So reduces effects of subsances that promote acid secretion eg gastrin
Magnesium Trisilicate
Neutralizes gastric acid ang acid
Binds bile acids
