Furosemide 40 mg BD - patient complains that they have to ‘get up at night a lot to go for a wee’, how can we explain this to our patient?

A

water tablet, which helps reduce fluid on the lungs and on the legs by increasing the amount of water that is passed through the kidneys and this means more urine is produced. Explains why he is getting up at night

take it at 8 am and 2 pm (instead of the evening)

what questions do we need to ask patients who are going to take doxycycline (if we are prescribing)

A

Avoid sunlight when on doxycycline (ask them if theyre going on holiday, sunbeds) photosensitivity
Can the patient swallow capsules?
Will they need a liquid?
