Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
・TREAT: depression, behavioral disorders, eating disorders
・SE: weight gain/loss, reduced sex drive, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea, serotonin syndrome
→ any of the: “-xetine”, “-pram” + 2 meds
EX: [G] SERTRALINE, [B] ZOLOFT
Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs)
・TREAT: depression, eating disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, diabetic peripheral neuropathy
・SE: similar to SSRIs but with additional cardiovascular side effects. Common side effects: dry mouth, nausea, headache, fatigue, dizziness
→ “Delightful Villain’s Delivered Medusa”
EX: [G] DULOXETINE, [B] CYMBALTA
Insulin
・TREAT: type I+ II diabetes mellitus
・SE: hypoglycemia, redness/swelling/itching at injection site
→ EX: [G] INSULIN GLARGINE, [B] LANTUS
Biguanides
・TREAT: type II diabetes mellitus
・SE: lactic acidosis, vit. B12 deficiency, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting
→ EX: (ONLY ONE) [G] METFORMIN , [B] GLUCOPHAGE, FORTAMET
Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitors
・TREAT: type II diabetes mellitus
・SE: hypoglycemia (low risk), musculoskeletal pain, headache, upper respiratory infection, stevens-johnson syndrome (SJS; rare)
→ EX: any of the : “-liptin”
Sulfonylureas
・TREAT: type II diabetes mellitus
・SE: hypoglycemia, weight gain
→ EX: any of the : “Gl-“ + “Tol-“ + 1 other
