Companion flange
splined flange attached to a component, bolts to a flange yoke.
Coupling shaft
Short shaft, front of the driveline
End yoke
Splined yoke, attached to a component such as transmission or rear axle
False bridling
Lubricant is squeezed out from between the needles and trunnions of a U-joint leading to wear.
Caused by too small or no angle at the joint
Flange yoke
Two ears to hold a U-joint and flat flange to bolt to a companion flange
Phasing
Lining up inboard yoke ears so that non-uniform velocity cancellation occurs
Plan angle
An angle where the driveshaft moves toward to side of the vehicle as viewed form above
Slip joint
Splined shaft and tube, allows length changes to driveshaft
Tube yoke
Yoke with two ears, welded to the driveshaft tube
