Air Brake System Vocabulary Flashcards
Air Dryer Integrated System (AD-IS)
Air dyer built into supply reservoir, contains additional valves
Anti compounding valve
Prevents simultaneous application of service and spring brakes
Bob tailing
A tractor with a trailer
Crack pressure
The air signal pressure required to begin delivery of air pressure from a relay valve
Inlet pressure regulating valve
Regulates maximum air pressure supplied to the air compressor from the turbocharger
Inversion valve
Spring brake relay valve
Air pressure closes
Limiter valve
Increase front brake application pressure when tractor is not towing a trailer
Pneumatic balance
All brakes have the same pressure
Pneumatic imbalance
Incorrect timing of brake application air pressure
Pressure protection valve
Control the charging of air system reservoirs draining out of the reservoir
Proportional valve
Changes service brake application pressure relative to signal pressure form the foot valve
Relay valve
Speeds up air flow during brake application
Stray relief valve
Valve located in the supply tank; used to prevent over pressurization of the tank
