Route step March, the Soldier may drink from his canteen and talk.

At ease march, the Soldier is no longer required to retain cadence; however, silence and the approximate interval and distance are maintained.

What are Supplementary Commands?
Supplementary commands are oral orders given by a subordinate leader that reinforce and complement a commander’s order.

What is the command of execution?
It tells when the movement is to be carried out.
What does the preparatory command state?
The movement to be carried out and mentally prepares the Soldier for its execution.
What is and how long was the blue book in use?
A drill manual used by Friedrich Von Steuben (a former Prussian officer) to train the colonial army. It preceded the FM 3-21.5. It was known as “The regulations for the Order and Discipline of the Troops of the United States”. This book was the first Army Field Manual and was unchanged for 85 years
