Drawing Conclusions Flashcards
What is reliability?
the extent to which the results are consistent when the environment is repeated more than once
What is validity?
is how accurate the instruments in an experiment actually measure what they are supposed to measure
A test or method cannot be valid unless it is?
reliable
What are inferential statistics?
are used to form conclusions and generalize findings to the population
What are generalisations?
when we apply findings to the wider population
What needs to occur for generalizations to be made?
- no ethics breached
- no major extraneous variables
- no convenience sampling
- big sample size
What is a conclusion?
decision or judgement about the results
- states whether the hypothesis has been supported or rejected
What is standard deviation?
shows how far the scores with a set of scores are set out from the mean
