Dose-Response Relationship Flashcards
3 Key assumptions of Dose-Response relationships
1- response is proportional to the concentration of the compound at a target site
2- concentration at the target site is related to dose or exposure duration
3- the observed response is directly caused by the administered compound
LC50
Lethal concentration causing 50% mortality in a population
EC50
Concentration causing a sub-lethal effect in 50% of the population
Therapeutic Index
Range of doses where a medication is effective without being lethal
Lethal-effects definition
death or quantal (all-or-nothing) outcomes
Sub-Lethal effects
Behavioural changes, lesions, biochemical shifts or altered growth rates
No Observed Effect Level Concentration (NOEC)
highest tested concentration for which there are no statistically significant differences in effect when compared to control
Limits in data analysis
curve fitting accuracy depends on data scatter & sample size
