Meaning of controlling behaviour
A range of acts designed to make a person dependent by isolating them from sources of support, exploiting their resources and capacities for personal gain, depriving them of the means for independence
Meaning of coercive behaviour
An act or a pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish or frighten the victim
Meaning of economic abuse
Any behaviour that has a substantial adverse effect on a persons ability to acquire use or maintain money or other property or obtain goods or services.
What is a DVPN
A domestic violence protection order
What does a DVPN do
Initial notice issued by the police to provide emergency protection to a victim of domestic abuse. The person must be aged 18 years or over and must be issued by an officer of rank superintendent or above
What happens after a DVPN
Once issued, a constable must apply to magistrates court for a DVPO and must be heard by the court no longer than 48 hours after the DVPN was served
How long does a DVPO last for
14 and 28 days
