Disability
A person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment and the impairment has a substantial and long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities
Types of physical or mental impairment
Sensory impairments - sight or hearing loss
Mental health
ADHD

Dyspraxia
Dyslexia
How long is long term of the impairment
Lasted for at least 12 months, it is likely to last for at least 12 months or it is likely to last for the rest of the life of the person affected
What does race include
Colour
Nationality
Ethnic or national origins
Direct discrimination
treating someone with a protected characteristic less favourably than others
Associative discrimination
Direct discrimination against someone because he/she is associated with another person with a protected characteristic
Indirect discrimination
A rule or policy that applies to everyone but disadvantages a person with a protected characteristic
Harassment
Behaviour deemed offensive by the recipient
Victimisation
when someone is treated less favourably as a result of being involved with a discrimination or harassment complaint. Ways someone could be victimised include: being labelled a troublemaker. being left out. not being allowed to do something.

Direct discrimination against someone because others think he/she has a protected characteristic
