What is Doctrine 4?
We believe that in the person of Jesus Christ the Divine and human natures are united, So that he is truly and properly God and truly and properly man.
List a name ascribed to Jesus Christ that indicates his divInity.
The Word-
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:14 (NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1
The Divinity of Christ (Old and New references)
Old Testament – Psalm 2:7 7 I will proclaim the LORD’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father.
New Testament – Matthew 3:16 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.
describe an occasion from scripture where the other persons of the Trinity are mentioned explicitly in the life of Jesus.
At Jesus baptism-
Luke 3:21-22-
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
Which three books have the strongest Christology?
Gospel of John, Epistles of Colossians and Hebrews
list biblical examples where Jesus Christ was worshipped, and accepts worship (as this speaks to his divinity).
By All Creation- Revelations 4:11
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
By Angels- Revelations 5:11-12
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

List a name ascribed to Jesus Christ that indicates his humanity
Jesus-Yeshua- Matthew 1:21
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[a] because he will save his people from their sins.”
Be able to defend Jesus’ full humanity from the bible
• his physical being
He was born, experienced hunger, tiredness, and died. (Mark, Luke, and John)
• his emotional being
sorrow, love, compassion, disappointment (mark)
• his intellect
He learned, developed, asked questions (mark and luke)
• his cultural/political/social being
he was circumcised (luke)
• spiritual – (ie. temptations/trials)
tempted and trials (Hebrews and luke) tells us that our high priest was tempted just like us and found without sin
What spiritual resources did Jesus have available to him as a human, in order to resist temptation and live a holy, God-honoring life? Relate these to us – Christians
Word of God- (matthew 4:1-11) Just as Jesus used scripture to rebuke the tempter, we too can use this powerful weapon against evil around us.
Prayer (luke 6:12) Jesus prayed to his Father, our Heavenly Father… so can we.
Holy Spirit (luke 4) The Holy Spirit was with Jesus when he was on earth, helping guide him and comfort him. Just as the Holy Spirit does for us. Specifically mentioned after he was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days, he returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit.
Define: “incarnation”
Embodiment- God entered the world in the form of a human person
Carnis- Flesh/made flesh
Quote John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling
among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of
the One and Only, who came from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
Define: “Immanuel” and explain it’s significance at the incarnation, especially as referenced in Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:36-38
Immanuel means ‘God with us’ and that is exactly what happened at the incarnation, God was made into human likeness and dwelt with us on earth for a period of time and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. He was born of the virgin Mary and was fully and properly God and fully and properly man
Old Testament ref for Christ humanity
Ezekiel 2:1-2 Is Ezekiels call to be a profit and speaks of the Son of man, rise to your feet and the Spirit entering him and bringing him to his feet.
New Testament example of Christ humanity
Jesus wept John 11:35
