Doctrine 11
We believe in the immortality of the soul, the resurrection of the body, in the general judgment at the end of the world, in the eternal happiness of the righteous, and in the endless punishment of the wicked.

Millenium
a. The messianic earthly reign of 1000 years

Pre-millenialism
i. The Parousia will be BEFORE the millennium
ii. It is a literal interpretation
iii. Cycle: Rapture, great tribulation, Parousia, the 1000 year reign, final rebellion, judgment, eternal kingdom
Post-Millenialism
i. Parousia is AFTER the gospel has been preached throughout the whole world
ii. The victory of the gospel in human society—the transformation that precedes the millennial kingdom
iii. Cycle: The age of the church, mission/evangelism, the millennium, great rebellion, Parousia, judgment, the eternal kingdom
a-millenialism
i. There is no future reign on earth
ii. Christ reigns now in and through his Church in the Age of the Church—no set time-frame
iii. The Church proclaims the gospel and produces fruit
iv. Cycle: The age of the church, Parousia, judgment, eternal kingdom
Gehenna
a. Suffering and perpetual loss
b. Exile from the presence of God
c. Unquenchable fire
d. Complete darkness
e. Culmination of the rejection of God

Three stages of Death
Phsyical, Spiritual, Eternal
Physical Death
i. Physical: life ceases in the body
1. Ecclesiastes 9:10—Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
a. The capacity to exercise the will ends
Spiritual
ii. Spiritual: broken divine/human relationship caused by sin
1. Romans 6:23—“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Eternal
iii. Eternal: final state of separation from God
1. Psalm 37:38—“But transgressors will be altogether destroyed; The posterity of the wicked will be cut off.”
Present State (physical death)
