DNA, Protein & Central Dogma Flashcards
Gene —–> mRNA
Transcription
mRNA ——> Protein
Translation
Purines include?
Adenine and Guanine
Pyrimidines include?
Cytosine, Thymine and Uracil
Base pairings in DNA is held together by what bonds?
Hydrogen bonds
DNA backbones are held together by what bond?
Covalent bonds
DNA replication occurs?
Semi-conservatively. One strand will be from the original template molecule and the other newly synthesized.
What is the start site of DNA replication called?
The origin
What is the role of Replication bubbles in Eukaryotic DNA replication?
Many simultaneously replication bubbles, expand in both directions and fuse as copying of daughter strand is copmplete.
What is the role of helicase?
Untwists the DNA helix to give single stranded DNA.
What is the role of topoisomerase?
“fixes” the increased coiling in the DNA template
What is the role of Single-stranded binding protein?
To stabilize the single stranded template.
What is the role of DNA primase?
To synthesis RNA primer at 5’ end
What direction does DNA synthesis take place?
5’ to 3’
How is the energy for polymerization supplied?
Via incoming triphosphate nucleotides (ATP, TTP, CTP, GTP)
