DNA Flashcards
What is DNA?
DNA is the complex chemical that carries genetic information.
Where is DNA found?
DNA is contained in chromosomes, which are found in the nucleus of most cells.
What are alleles?
Different forms of the same gene.
What do the bases in the DNA molecule carry?
The different codes needed for different amino acids.
What are genetic diseases?
Diseases inherited from our parents through genes.
What is a genome?
The genetic information in an organism.
What are the aims of the Human Genome Project?
To work out the order or sequence of all the three billion base pairs in the human genome.
To identify all the genes.
To develop faster methods for sequencing DNA.
What does DNA exist as?
Two helical strands held together through the base pairs by hydrogen bonding.
