DNA Flashcards
What is a genome?
The entire genetic material of that organism
What is a gene?
It’s a small section of DNA
What is DNA?
It’s a polymer (many parts) made of 2 strands, forming a double helix and The DNA colis tightly together into chromosomes
What is variation?
It’s the differences in individuals of a species. Inherited variation is passed on in genes and Environmental variation depends on how and where you were raised
What is Gamete?
It’s sex cells (Sperm, pollen, eggs)
What is an offspring?
It’s a child
What is cione?
It’s a genetically identical organism
What is fertilisation?
It’s the fusion of speed and egg to farm zygate
Sexual reproduction?
2 parents, fusion of gametes and variation in offspring
Asexual reproduction?
1 parent, no fusion of gametes and offsprings are clones of parents
What is a genotype?
It’s the code of alleles, which you carry for a particular gene
What is a phenotype?
It’s the physical appearance (eyes/ hair)
What is a hamozyganes?
It’s when an individual has 2 copies of a gene
What is a allele?
It’s a version of a particular gene
What is an heterozygous?
It’s when a individual has 2 different alleles of a gene
