Q

what is another debate and speculation of DMT?

A

debate: potential immune (stress) response signal
speculation: pineal gland and near death experience

Q

facilitation of increased immune response in ? receptors

- problem?

A

endemic.

- treatment does not imply endemic origin (doesn’t mean this is how our body is using it)

Q

describe stage 3 of DMT process

  • what NT
  • where
  • time
  • what
A
  • serotonin
  • prefrontal cortex
  • 1 - 5 min
  • DMT hyperspace, “other side”, some pp;l see themselves as transformers. machine elves: presence of human like half organic half technology beings, may speak different languages that are understandable.
17
Q

intake of DMT

A

mostly inhalation and injection

18
Q

what is the problem with ingestion?

A

MAO (enzyme) deactivates/breaks down DMT molecule in the liver, so you need a MAO inhibitor quickly, but this is hard to get

19
Q

what is the solution to the problem with ingestion?

A

ayhausca: brew which includes plant derived DMT and harmine/harmaline/tetradroharmine (MAO-I)

20
Q

what does ayhausca result in?

A
  • longer highs (3-6 hours)
  • similar experince to psilocybin but more intense (lesser than LSD but may include synaesthesia)
  • “la purga” : intense vomiting/ diahrea
  • no dietary restrictions (only acts on MAO-I)
21
Q

explain tolerance of DMT

A
  • debate between is there is none or acute
  • cycle of high may interfere with perception of tolerance
  • short duration may facilitate tolerance
22
Q

what is the onset offset of SDMT

A
  • onset rapid, offset 1 hour
23
Q

serotonin sit right on the receptor and then comes right off, so it is a very short experience, even you become tolerant to LSD you will not become tolerant to DMT, unless DMT is affecting something else we are not aware of
–> what is this explaining

A

cross tolerance (didn’t know how to make this question but thought it was important kinda)

24
Q

is there cross tolerance?

A

no cross tolerance to LSD, but LSD cross tolerance with DMT

25
Q

is there dependence?

A

no observable physical dependence

- psychological still in debate

26
Q

explain the therapeutic effects of DMT

“the hoasca project”

A

ayahuasca decreased frequencies of psychiatric symptoms among adolescents in an religious context. may reflect a protective effect due to their religious affiliation
–> 7 x lower incidence of anxiety and body dysmorphia and attention

27
Q

explain the therapeutic effects of DMT

“insight orientated psychotherapy”

A
  • behavioural/ cognitive restructuring
  • -> in PTSD, phobia and anxiety: rationalization, removing/changing the emotional component
  • -> in depressiona and addiction: therapeutic insight, fears, beliefs, motives, desires

using hoasca

28
Q

what brain areas are involved in therapeutic insight orientated psychotherapy

A

frontal lobe (perception/reasoning), insula (emotion/cognition), amygdala (negative emotional processing)

29
Q

what does DMT do in insight orientated psychotherapy?

A

brings forth the traumatic experience, elicits multiplicity of perspectives/ perception, hyperactivation allows for hebbian synapse to form for new interpretation
