The Equality Act 2010
What are the key element of the Equality Act 2010?
Sets out 9 protected characteristics for discrimination.
These include gender, sexual orientation, sex, marriage, pregnancy, disability, race, religion etc.
It makes various forms of discrimination illegal and provides means of remedy.
What should businesses do to ensure a diverse and inclusive working environment?
Appropriate policies, recruitment which avoids unconscious bias, inclusive communication, comply with Equality Act
What is unconscious bias?
A prejudice against someone which is unsupported, and is therefore not right nor reasonable.
How is the RICS addressing diversity and inclusion?

What are some key skills to effective teamwork?
listening, communication, negotiation, persuasion, positivity, helping, reflection.
What are the benefits of a diverse team?
Idea generation, different ways of thinking, different ways of communicating, success.
How do you remain conscious of avoiding unconscious bias?
I try to be self-reflective of my actions. What I did in a given situation and whether this was the correct course of action. If I am in doubt, I raise this with those I could have affected.
What constitutes effective teamworking?
A positive environment, where everyone has the chance to voice their opinions and look to build upon other peoples idea.
