feel as though they are observers of their own body or mental processes
- internal feeling of disconnect
Derealization?
feeling that one’s surroundings are unreal or distant
-external feeling of disconnect
what is Dissociative amnesia?
cant remember important autobiographical info
what is dissociative fugue?
sudden, unexpected travel away from normal place. then the inability to recall identity or info about the past
ie. bourne identity
Dissociative Identity Disorder
two or more distinct personality states that alternately take control of behaviour
what are common co morbidity of DD
anxiety and depression
what brain system is connected to DD?
limbic system
Assessment guide for Dissociative Disorders
- assess identity and memory
- signs of dissociation
- history of similar episode - have they suffered abuse, trauma, or loss as a child?
- mood and level of anxiety
- what are their support systems?
- check for psychosocial distress
- history of self harm
Interventions for dissociative disorders
Ensure they’re safe by frequent observation
Provide easy routine
Encourage to do things alone
Help with decision making till memory is back
Help them see the consequence of their coping strategy
Teach stress reduction techniques
