Dissection 1 - Intro Flashcards
What part of the abdomen is the liver?
RUQ
How many parts are there to the liver?
2 lobes
Right and left lobe
What is the name of the ligament joining the 2 lobes of the liver together?
The falciform ligament
Where is the stomach located?
Deep to the liver
What are the 2 landmarks of the stomach and where abouts are they located?
Lesser curvature (more superior/the inside of the curve of a C)
Greater curvature (outer part of the curve of a C so its more inferior)
What is the sphincter between the oesophagus and the stomach called?
Lower oesophageal sphincter
What is the sphincter between the stomach and the duodenum called?
Pyloric sphincter
Describe the passage of food through the abdominal organs from the oesophagus:
Oesophagus -> stomach -> duodenum -> jejunum -> ileum -> caecum - > ascending colon -> transverse colon -> descending colon -> sigmoid colon
What is a flexure?
Where the colon bends
What is the right colic/heptatic flexure?
The start of the transverse colon (also called the hepatic flexure since its near the liver)
What is the left colic/ splenic flexure?
Flexure where the colon changes from the transverse colon to the descending colon
What is the fatty flap which when retracted reveals the small intestines?
Greater omentum
Where is the lesser omentum found?
Between the liver and lesser curvature of the stomach
What is the first part of the small intestine that is visible?
Proximal jejenum
At what point does the jejunum become the ileum?
About halfway along the small intestine
