What is a variable
A characteristic that can have different values
What is a value
A possible number or category that a variable can have
What is a score
A particular persons value on a variable
What are the two types of variables
- categorical (nominal)
- numeric (quantitative)
Nominal Data
Variables in name only
Does not denote anything about the relative magnitude (size)
What is ordinal data
Data that has a sequence but irregular gaps between levels (ages)
What is equal interval data
Steps in the scale are evenly placed but zero does not mean zero
What is ratio data
Steps in the scale are evenly placed and zero means zero
What does the width of a bar indicate in a histogram
The size of each interval
What is a frequency polygon
A histogram with the lines on top
If a tail is more pronounced on the left it is a what skew
Negative (left)
If a tail is more pronounced on the right it is a what skew
Positive (right)
