Three main causes of pneumomediastinum
Alveolar rupture with dissection of air into mediastinum
Perforation or rupture of the esophagus, trachea or main bronchi
Dissection of air from rhe neck or the abdomen into mediastinum
Crunching or clicking noise synchronous with the heartbeat and best heard in the left lateral decubitus position
Hamman’s sign
Treatment of pneumomediastinum with mediastinal compression
Needle aspiration
