Stein levanthel syndrome/ PCOS definition and etiology(cause) ?
Characterized by hyperandrogenism, infertility, anovulatory, and polycystic ovaries
Etiology: unbalanced FSH and LH secretion
Increase level of LH
Androgen excess inhibit FSh secretion
PCOS gross, microscopy and clinicals ?
Ovaries are twice in size, gray 0.5 cm
Micro: thick fibrotic ovarian capsule, absence of corpora lutea
Clinical: females present with hirutism, acne DM, obesity OLIGOMENORRHEA, infertility
Surface epithelial tumors(serous tumor) gross and microscopy(benign, borderline, and malignant) ?
Most common benign show cystic, borderline show papillae and malignant show hard solids
Micro: benign cyst wall lined by ciliates columnar. Borderline shows papillae, mild atypia and no stromal invasion. Malignant shows, complex, nuclear atypia, and stromal invasion
Other surface tumors ?
Endometroid( usually malignant) transitional tumor
Transitional tumor
Shows stromal nests and is solid
Serum to detect overian tumor and ovarian cancer
Tumor : CA-125 cancer: Ag-125
Dygerminoma gross and microscopy ?
Resemble seminoma gross: grey white, soft and fleshy.
Microscopy: large cells with clear cytoplasm
Teratoma gross and microscopy

Microscopy wall is composed of stratified squamous, shows bone, cartilage, teeth, thyroid tissue

Micro: Schiller duvali bodies.
Choriocarcinoma behavior
Secrete HCG and is very aggressive can metastasize to bone, liver and brain
Ovarian choriocarcinoma is unresponsive to chemotherapy which is fatal
