active squamous chronic otitis media. 5-15yrs. locally destructive around and beyond the pars flaccida

middle ear inflammation leads to destruction air cells in mastoid bone and abscess formation
signs in mastoiditis
incr temp, tender mastoid, protruding auricle
treatment mastoiditis
do CT. IV antibiotics, myringotomy, mastoidectomy
risk factors for otitis media
URTI, passive smoking, incr BMI and GORD in adults, adenoids, asthma, bottle feeding, pacifier/dummy
