For the right reason
describe Traffic Director triage
uses a nonclinical person to greet patients and decide based on impression if the patient is to go to an empty bed or to the waiting room. It is good for ED’s that can’t cost effectively staff a RN in triage at all times 24 hours a day.
Describe Spot Check Triage-
RN is notified by a nonclinical person that a patient has arrived in the ED, who then performs a brief assessment and triage acuity. Also used by ED’s that can not staff a RN in the triage 24 hours a day.
Describe Comprehensive Triage
- every patient assessed by an RN and is assigned acuity based on health factors and the flow of the department. Is the method endorsed by the ENA.
Which method of triage is endorsed by the ENA?
Comprehensive triage
Describe Two Tiered Triage-
minimum of 2 triage nurses. First nurse gives rapid assessment immediately, and higher acuity patients move directly to the department. For patients without life threatening conditions, the second triage nurse performs a more comprehensive assessment in the triage area. This form of triage takes the place of a nonclinical greeter then nurse process, but keep the advantage of being able to handle a large influx of patients.
Describe Provider at Triage
places a dr, np, or pa in the triage area, and works with the triage RN to initiate lab, rad, and other diagnostics before the patient is moved to the treatment area.
Describe Rapid Medical Examination
Provider or id level functions in the triage area and provides medical screening as part of the triage process. Only patients requiring a bed are placed in the treatment area, the rest are provided for in the waiting room awaiting results. Patients may be fully treated and discharges without being placed in the treatment area
