define disability identities
an individuals identity based on their disability

the medical and social model. medical model is where disability is seen as a medical model which leads to victim blaming and see themselves as failures whereas social model is when it looks at society and lack of accessibility it provides for all types of individual’s like lifts, but in both ways they are pitied.

2/3rs of people find it akwad to talk to disbaled people and 43% werent aware someone had a disability

the words we use like dis-eased and dis-abled which leads to learned helplessness and the idea they cant take action themselves - self fulfilling prophecy

once disabled people accept their inability they start to become independent and don’t revolve their identity around their disability but only part of it as they reject the labels they face.

those who become disabled find themselves labelling themselves of how they labelled other disabled people and aren’t able to feel pity for themselves.

disabled children shouldn’t see themselves as different from able-bodied children and through the help of specialised teachers they too can thrive.

what does interactionists argue about disabled?
they are labelled negatively which leads to them self fulfilling the label and becoming what they are labelled. for example not being independent and able to do things themselves.
