What happens if the project board cannot provide unified direction and guidance to the PM?
The PM should refer to the executive
Does the project board provide only formal advice to the PM?
No - it can be formal and informal
To initiate a project, the project team don’t want to have a formal meeting. Is this acceptable?
Yes but only as long as all members are in agreement and the PM is given documented instruction from the executive.
The project board wish to give the project support a role of inspecting the initiation stage plan to ensure it is viable. Is this acceptable?
No - they can only appoint project assurance.
How does the project board authorise the next stage?
By reviewing performance in current stage and approving stage plan for next stage.
What needs to be escalated for project board approval?
Exceptions to stage or project plans.
What if we need to deviate from the project plan?
It may need CPC approval.
Who authorises woke package exceptions?
The PM using a controlling a stage process. If approved the exception plan will replace the plan.
When does the need for consultation between the PM and project board increase?
During initiation stage and when approaching management stage boundaries. Members may give informal guidance or respond to requests for advice at any time.
The CPC now want to change the project mandate due to issues externally. What options do the project board have?
- Treat it as a request for change and ask the PM to replan the management stage or project
- Stop and restart the project by triggering premature closure
