What is the trade name?
Gravel.
What is the class?
It is an anti-emetic.
What is the MOA?
It has been shown to inhibit vestibular stimulation. Acting on the otloith system and in larger doses on the semicircular canals.
It also inhibits acetylcholine and cholinergic stimulation in the vestibular and reticulated systems.
What is the dosage?
50mg SIVP/IM q 4 hours
Patients 65 or older, 25 mg q 15 mins prn to a maximum of 50mg.
What are indications?
Vertigo
Motion sickness
Pregnancy
Narcotic administration
Alcohol withdrawal.
What are some contraindications?
Hypersensitivity to dimenhyrinate, diphenhydramine or propylene glycol.
Narrow angle glaucoma.
Patients who have ingested large amounts of depressants (including alcohol)
